Friday's Faux Paw

bad-britneyI will start by saying that I am not against hair extensions, wigs, weaves, etc. However, if you are going to wear any of these types of hair enhancements, please make sure it’s in good condition. Having a frizzy, fake, bird’s nest, barbie doll hair on top of your head is never stylish. People will look at you, but for the wrong reasons. Make sure you follow the instructions on how to look after your hair extensions to keep them in great condition. And if you are trying to make it look like you really have long hair when it’s short, match the the clip on ponytail, fall, etc to your hair colour. Otherwise you just look like someone ran by you with a clump of fake hair and jammed it on your head. Of course none of this applies to punk rockers or people going for shock value. But for the rest of you who thinks this is a natural, beautiful look, here is my rating:

4-poop-star

10 Things I Can't Live Without

Yes it’s Thursday and it’s probably one of my favourite days of the week on my blog. Why? Because it’s the day I write about whatever I want. For today’s topic as the title reads, I’m going to share with you 10 things I can’t live without. I mean I could live without all of these things, but life just wouldn’t be the same. Of course these are just items and are way down the list of importance after God, my husband, son, dog, extended family, and friends. And I feel I should add that none of these items I’m listing are in any way sponsored. I just freaking love them!

So in no particular order here they are:

1. Coconut Oil

Seriously. It is the shiz! I put it on my face to moisturize it. I throw some in my hair to deep condition it. I drink it in hot water for the health benefits. And it’s great for removing make up.

2. Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Vanilla Tea

I am usually a loose leaf tea drinker but once I tried this tea, I had to give props to tea in a bag. I found it hard to find a tea that relaxes me AND tastes great but this tea is it for me. I drink a cup pretty much every night before bed. And it’s also very inexpensive.

3. dōTERRA Balance Essential Oil

I am seriously addicted to this oil. Balance is responsible for keeping me from totally losing my s**t on a day-to-day basis. When I feel the urge to kill rising, I put some of this oil on my temples and pulse points. Then I inhale it from my hands. And order is restored in my hectic life. Ahhhhhhh…

4. Paula’s Choice Lip & Body Treatment Balm

This is without a doubt the best and only lip balm I use. If needed I apply it in the morning and before bed. That’s it! I have been using it for at least 7 years. My lips have never been better.

5. L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara

I hate, hate, hate clumpy mascara – especially with big brushes. This mascara is not clumpy and has a thin brush which makes it super easy to evenly coat every lash. One coat add lots of length while more than one coat gives me as much volume as I need. Love it!

6. Banana Boat Natural Reflect Sunscreen Kids SPF 50

After giving birth to James, I couldn’t wear any chemical sunscreen anymore as it burned and irritated my skin. My Mom suggested this sunscreen and I haven’t looked back. The formulation has active ingredients sourced from 100% natural minerals, broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection, it’s tear free and sting free, paraben & PABA free, and oxybenzone-free. The only downside is that because it has zinc oxide in it, it makes my face have a white tinge when I first apply it. But in a few minutes it goes away and my skin isn’t greasy. It’s a must have.

7. All Of My Essential Oil Diffusers

I know I’m kind of cheating by putting my four oil diffusers on my list, but I need all of them. I have a main one in my kitchen that can diffuse up to 20 hours containing an invigorating blend. Then there’s my office one which has a grounding yet energetic blend in it. My husband had to get in on the action so he has a motivating blend in the one in his office. And then there’s the one in the bedroom which has a sleepytime blend in it. Lots of places now sell them so just Google “Essential Oil Diffusers”.

8. My Silver Rosary

I don’t use it nearly enough, but it is definitely the most important thing I own. I bought it in Spain on my first solo trip to somewhere other than the States. Many prayers have been prayed with it and lots of miracles have happened along with them. It is a gorgeous silver and each bead is engraved into a rose. Oh and by the way for those who don’t know, I’m a very devout Catholic.

9. Netflix

Okay. You are stuck at home day after day with a crazy dog and an even crazier threenager. You don’t have cable or even basic TV. You’re husband works until 11:30pm every night. After your kid’s bedtime you want to relax and escape your day but don’t want to cry yourself to sleep with yet another glass or three of wine. Enter Netflix. If watching two hours of my favourite show is wrong, I don’t wanna feel right.

10. Aussie Three Minute Miracle Moist Conditioner

I just used it for the first time tonight and I am totally hooked. I feel like I have missed out on shiny, soft hair for years when I just could’ve been using this product! My hair feels like silk. I can’t keep from touching it. So glad I’m not in public right now.

So, what’s on your 10 things you can’t live without list? Please let me know in the comments below.

Tuesday's OOTW - Solid

I love prints so much. Especially when they are bright prints. However, a girl sometimes needs to tone it down and strut some denim and khaki. I didn’t want to make my outfit totally blah so I added my new red bag. I can see me getting lots more usage out of this bag through fall and winter. I have had this denim skirt for years. If you don’t have one, now is the time to pick one up as they are in stores now. They are so comfy and versatile, you can wear them with pretty much anything. And I’m super stoked to be finally wearing a pair of aviator sunglasses. Up until now I have steered clear of getting a pair because every pair I tried on looked awful on me. I think the biggest problem was that they were all too big for my small face. Then I was at the Alberta Aviation Museum’s gift shop and they had aviator sunnies for $5. So I tried on a pair just for fun and they looked awesome! My search was over. Highway to the danger zone indeed.

Off To The Races - The Canadian Derby

This is a sponsored post.

It’s the biggest event in Western Canadian racing—the thrilling afternoon where the past and present collide and the sport of kings gets the full attention it deserves. It’s a day of glamour and action, filled with history and traditionIt’s the Canadian Derby and this is how it began.

Robert James Speer was an Ontario-born racing fan who moved to Manitoba in 1900 when he was 18. Over the subsequent decades he built several racetracks across Western Canada, including Winnipeg’s Polo Park, which opened in 1925. Five years later, Polo Park inaugurated the Manitoba Stakes—an annual race limited to Manitoba-bred horses. Six years later, the race was renamed the Manitoba Derby and opened up to all three year-old Canadian thoroughbreds.

It stayed that way for another five years before finally officially becoming the Canadian Derby. From 1941 to 1956, the race drew the top competitors from across the country to Winnipeg, including legendary Canadian racehorses Budpath (who won in 1941) and Chain Reaction (who won in 1953).

Following the closing of Polo Park, the Canadian Derby moved to Edmonton’s Northlands Park, where it has been run annually for nearly six decades, growing in importance and prestige throughout the years.

Now when I was invited to take part in the 88th running of the Canadian Derby this Saturday August 19th, I literally squealed with delight. Watching gorgeous horses race. Check. Eating awesome food. Check. Drinking alcoholic beverages. Check. Getting my husband to dress up. Check. Having a date during the *gasp* day. Check. Wearing a pretty dress. Check. Wearing an awesome hat. Check. Which nicely segues into the rest of this post. Yep I made a hat for the occasion.

First I went to Value Village’s 50% off sale and bought a dress and hat. Then I took the belt off my dress to the Michael’s and the Dollartree and got some flowers and assorted things that matched. I ended up not using the feathers shown in the photo below. Then I got a pair of scissors, a glue gun, and some wire together.

Next I glued all the butterflies to the stems so they wouldn’t fall off.

Then I cut all the flowers off the bouquets and glued them to their bases.

Then I secured the butterfly cluster by bending the wire and feeding it though the hat band. I then tied it with the wire and attached it with the wore to my hat. Then I glued the hat band to the hat.

Then I just started in the middle where I secured the butterflies and worked outwards on each side gluing flowers and leaves to the hat. To keep them from falling off, I glued various petals to the hat.

And that’s it. I’m derby ready!

I suck at crafting so if I can do this so can you! To see my full outfit, head to the races Saturday! Grab your tickets here.

So, would you try this? Let me know in the comments below.

This is a sponsored post, however all opinions are my own.

Friday's Faux Paw

muffinpage

I love it when human women wear dresses. There is nothing more feminine or pretty than a woman in a dress! Why then do so many of you wear a nice form fitting dress and then ruin it with the wrong undergarments – specifically panties? I am tired of seeing women wearing control top panties which create a bulge over top of them so you look like your oozing out of a sausage casing! (Mmmmmm… sausage…) Yes by all means wear underwear that holds you in. But choose a panty that doesn’t stop at your waist but continues to under your bra. This will make you look fabulous under those form fitting dresses. Check out Spanx. If you don’t want to invest in something like that, then don’t bother with a control panty at all and just wear regular ones. Not only will you look better, but I won’t mistake you for a sausage and try to take a bite out of you.

My Music Playlist For Summer 2017

Anyone remember mixed tapes? Anyone??? I sure do.

Summer you have are going by so fast you should get a speeding ticket! These past few weeks there has been so much going on. Tim (husband) and I are getting our clothing business off the ground, all three of us had the stomach flu, we’re planning our holiday to Comox, British Columbia, a good friend of ours passed away, James (toddler) hit my neck out of alignment, until yesterday the weather has been rainy and cold, and I feel frazzled because I just need three hours alone to chill the heck out. Thanks for reading this because I now feel better getting everything off my chest.

*End Of My Pissmoaning*

Anyhow, I love music. It has helped me stay somewhat sane over these past weeks. I am not the biggest fan of current music so you will notice there are songs on this list from the 1970’s up until last year. So here are some the songs I am crushing on for the summer of 2017:

Don’t Dream It’s Over – Crowded House

More – Usher

Bad Blood – Neil Sedaka

Everybody Talks – Neon Trees

Hallelujah – Jeff Buckley

Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars

Things Can Only Get Better – Howard Jones

Too Much Time On My Hands – Styx

Dream Come True – Frozen Ghost

Welcome To The Jungle – Guns N Roses

Pompeii – Bastille

Already Gone – Eagles

Tears In Heaven – Eric Clapton

Pressure – Billy Joel

Let Your Backbone Slide – Maestro Fresh Wes

Got For A Soda – Kim Mitchell

Goody Two Shoes – Adam Ant

Hope you enjoyed my playlist and maybe found one or two new songs you will like. What’s on your playlist for summer? Let me know in the comments below!

Tuesday's OOTW - Dots Right!

I love a colourful background to take my Outfit Of The Week. This wall in my hometown of Saskatoon fit the bill nicely. Because the wall is so busy, I thought it would be good to wear a simple outfit instead of my usual bright print mixes. I have been living in these ruffled t-shirts most of the summer. I love them so much I bought a whole bunch of different colours. They are lightweight and super comfy. The skirt I have had for years but never worn until this summer. And now it has shown up in two of my posts. The other post is here

About to go on holidays this Sunday and I can’t wait. I’ve even decided to task a *gasp* break from my blog and all social media. I think everyone needs to recharge sometimes. What are you going to be doing for a break this summer? Let me know in the comments below.

Have you entered to win a $300 gift card from Moose Knuckles Clothing?

For those who haven’t heard of Moose Knuckles, it’s a Canadian company that sells clothing – especially toasty parkas. Moose Knuckles also carries shirts, vests, swim trunks, field jackets, flasks, duffle bags and so much more!

In Canada, Moose Knuckles will open two more permanent storefronts in Vancouver and Calgary this fall. Both stores are being designed by O’Neil Langan Architects, an award-winning New York based agency specializing in retail design and you can buy great clothing pieces from https://www.groenerekenkamer.com.

The Vancouver Moose Knuckles location will open in October on the lower level of CF Pacific Centre in a 2,580-square-foot space next to Marc Cain and across from Sandro and Browns Shoes. The Moose Knuckles store will feature a layout revolving around a patterned iced glass structure.

LED technology will provide a ‘blizzard effect’ on loop making it appear as if one is walking through a storm into the store where jackets hang from fixtures descending from the ceiling. CF Pacific Centre is the leading shopping centre in downtown Vancouver and is anchored by Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew. Moose Knuckles competitor Canada Goose operates a store upstairs in the same mall.

One lucky person is going to walk away with a $300 gift card from Moose Knuckles!
This giveaway runs from Wednesday July 26, 2017 to 11:59pm Mountain Standard Time Wednesday August 16, 2017. This giveaway is open Internationally. Enter here. Good luck!

Tuesday's OOTW - Fabloomus!

Am I starting to run out of cute pun titles for my OOTW, or am I just super tired? I think it’s the latter. It’s been a very stressful three months in our family. As today is the first day of a new month, I am seriously hoping things improve! I must admit I am already feeling a bit more cheery looking at this gorgeous dress. I have never seen anything exactly like it before and haven’t since I bought it, but I will try to find something comparable in my link below. Grabbing my trusty corset belt, and my super comfy block hell sandals and I’m ready to take on the world. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t desperately need a break. So heads up! I’m taking a week off in August to go camping. I’ll fill you in on the details later. In the meantime, what are you up to in August? Let me know in the comments below.
