Awesome Giveaway From Zombomb!

Zombomb is a wonderful Bath Bomb and Salt company in my city of Edmonton. In case you missed my post about Zombomb, you can read it here. The owner Kathy is wonderful and I must say I can’t go very long without a bath in one of her great products. I’m so addicted! She is always super excited about Halloween. I must admit I am too. I already have our whole family’s costumes planned out and purchased for this year.

Ready for an awesome giveaway? Inspired by Body World, up for grabs are chunks of human flesh that conveniently smell and is disguised as watermelon soap. Nothing makes me say bath time like a chunk of human flesh! Smells great and resurrects your skin from the dead.

Tuesday's OOTW - I Wear Short Shorts!

I am in total denial that fall is coming. So I will be defiant and post my last photos of me enjoying my summer in short shorts.

What happens when you are on a photo shoot for multiple outfits and you forget shoes for a particular outfit? You strap on some thrifted gold Guess heels, that’s what. I’m surprised by how much I’ve worn these $8 shoes this summer. I’m also surprised by how comfortable they are. And they ended up looking kinda cool how they dressed up a simple tank top and patterned shorts combo. Thrifting to the rescue!!

Friday's Faux Paw

I know I have said this before but people need to get a good tailor. I am getting so frustrated seeing people wear clothes that simply don’t fit. A few days ago a woman was crossing the street and her yoga pants (that’s already a no-no see this) were over her shoes and dragging on the ground. I thought the following, “Is she on her way to clown college? Did someone hit her with a shrink ray? Is she borrowing someone else’s pants?” Because it’s so easy and cheap (around eight dollars) to go to a tailor and get pants hemmed I wonder why there are still people that walk around looking like that. Because I have mentioned getting a tailor many times, I now give this my stinkiest rating:

Tuesday's OOTW - Thrifting Can Be Glamorous!

I don’t always shop at thrift stores. But when I do, I usually shop at the Hope Bargain Shoppe. Their prices are WAY more reasonable than other used clothing stores plus they often have 50% off sales. Among my many great finds there were a fabulous pair of gold Guess shoes for $8.00. Also the Hope Bargain Shoppe gives 100% of its proceeds to The Hope Mission. Another reason I only donate my clothes there is that if the Hope Mission has a need for particular items, the Hope Bargain Shoppe will give the items directly to the Hope Mission who will in turn give the items to the people who need them. Do all the good I say!

This all being said, I did find this awesome dress a long time ago (before The Hope Bargain Shoppe opened) at Value Village. It was love at first sight and for $15 I just couldn’t resist taking it home. Maxi dresses are such an easy choice for summer. Just add accessories and you’re done! I’ve also posted about maxi dresses here and here.

Friday's Faux Paw

If it doesn’t fit you must acquit! While that may have been a popular saying years ago at the OJ Simpson trial, the same holds true in fashion to this day. In case you don’t know, the majority of humans cannot buy directly off the rack and get the clothing to perfectly fit. Yes I’m talking to all the ladies that think they have weird bodies. It is not you, it is the clothes! They are made based on what the industry thinks is a standard size. They will fit many people but not all people. Doesn’t that make you feel better? I know when Joelle realized this gem of information she became rather happy. So unless you are scared of looking good, go and find yourself a good tailor. Otherwise your most expensive outfit (like Gwyneth shown here) that doesn’t fit well will look cheap. Good tailoring means you can spend less get the outfit tailored and look like a million bucks. If you don’t, you deserve this rating:

Summer Trends That Will Take You Into Fall

I don’t want to use the f word, but fall is on its way. Here in my spot in Canada, we blink and summer is over. Our fall is almost non-existent before there is snow on the ground. Basically we have eight months of winter. I like wearing my clothes lots so I get a good bang for my buck. So here are some trends that you can wear now that will still look great when the weather gets a bit chillier.

Lace Up Flats

These babies have been everywhere all summer long but no need to retire them once fall hits. Grab some jeans, a sweater, hat, and cute scarf and finish the look with a pair of these popular shoes. If you want to add more lace ups to your collection, why not choose a velvet or suede pair in a deep wine?

floral top capri pants

Off Shoulder Shirts

You might want to retire the sleeveless ones, but if you have long-sleeved off shoulder tops, then pair them with some cords and a scarf and you’re ready for fall! If you’re someone who’s into religion-related clothing, check out this great faith over fear shirt.

Jumpsuits And Rompers

Wear some cute ankle boots and throw on a jean jacket over your favourite jumpsuit and you can keep wearing it into fall. As for rompers (which have shorts), be bold and put on some tights, boots, and a jacket so you don’t get too chilly.

tropical print romper jumpsuitYou can still wear me, Joelle! Ditch the heels and add a jean jacket and some ankle boots.

Pom Poms

You’ll have to ditch the pomp pom sandals and cover-up, however if you have a romper, shirt, or dress with pom poms, just make it seasonably appropriate the ways I suggested previously.

Tasseled Earrings

They are clearing them out right now pretty much everywhere (got a pair for a dollar at H&M) so if you didn’t have a pair this summer I say buy them now. I’m definitely going to rock my turquoise pair with white jeans, a T-shirt, and a military jacket this fall.

Funky Sunnies

We still get a lot of sun here in fall, so I will be wearing my sunglasses. I loved seeing all the different and unique pairs this summer and realized I badly needed to up my sunglass game. (Only two pairs?!? What was I thinking???) So I fixed that by ordering three pairs on Amazon. Received my leopard print sunnies, and gorgeous mirrored pink ones, but still waiting on my black octagonal ones.

Hope this helps you get ready for fall! Is there anything I’ve missed? Let me know in the comments below.

Tuesday's OOTW - Bee-you-ti-ful!

It’s no lie that with a husband, toddler, dog, health challenges, dōTERRA business, singing in a choir, organizing, running our home, and blogging, I am busy like a bee. So here’s my bee outfit! I love pairing bright colours with anything with black and white, so I thought yellow would look great. To add even more interest, I threw on one of my favourite necklaces in fuchsia and to match it some fuchsia platforms. I got those shoes to attend my good friend’s wedding in April and never thought I’d wear them again. I was wrong. For the record, they are actually surprisingly comfortable.

Friday's Faux Paw

anklet under nylonsIf you’ve been following my Friday’s Faux Paw for a while, I would hope that you would not make such a rookie mistake. I speak of wearing an anklet underneath nylons. It just looks really bad. There are really only two options to fix this. Either take it off or put it on top of the nylons. Personally I think if you’re wearing nylons, you shouldn’t wear an anklet at all. Anklets just look better on a bare leg. It’s been a while since I saw this faux paw and I truly hope I never see it again.

How I Work From Home

work from home girl on computer

If you work from home, you’ve probably read many people write about suggestions on how to be productive while doing so. Things like make sure you designate work hours in an actual home office which is organized, get showered, get dressed, put make up on, and do my hair, get rid of distractions, and so on. While this all sounds like really good ideas, I must respectfully disagree with some of them.

Here’s the deal. Part of the reason I truly enjoy working from home is that I don’t have to have specific office hours. This is great because I’ve found out my toddler doesn’t have specific hours either. He doesn’t yet understand that Mommy has to write a post, answer emails, do a photo shoot, or wrangle my social media accounts. Also a toddler is a HUGE distraction. For writing posts, I wait until he’s asleep. But as for answering emails, photo shoots, and social media, I have to do these things often while he’s awake and crazy busy. As for other distractions when I’m writing, I don’t watch Netflix however I do blast 80’s music really loudly though my headphones.

As for having an organized designated home office, I think that’s a great idea. Mainly because I’m a Type A who hates clutter. Since I recently created my home office in a spare bedroom, I have been getting more writing done than before and enjoying it way more. I still enjoy writing in my backyard or in my bed though.

Now onto getting showered, dressed, and my make up on and hair done. Once again the reason I enjoy working from home is I no longer have to do these things if I don’t want to! I love writing in my pajamas (I’m doing so right now and it seems to be working out). I have not noticed a downturn in my productivity on days when I stay in my pj’s all day. Actually I feel that some of the best things I’ve written are when I look like a garbage dump. No bra = comfort.

So that’s basically my slant on the whole how to get stuff done while working at home thingWith a husband who works weird hours and a toddler, I’ve had to learn to go with the flow more. This does not mean I don’t have a schedule though. Someday I will do “A Day In The Life Of Joelle & Zeke” to show you what a typical day looks like for us, but until then there’s just one thing for me that’s non-negotiable. When I write I drink tea – usually these days a homemade London Fog.

Any work from home people out there? How do you do it?

Tuesday's OOTW - May The Forest Be With You

When I saw this tank top online, I knew it had to get into my life. I love the outdoors, however there is a play on words on it. I’ll give you a hint – my last name is on the tank top. Funny, hey? I’m also loving my new mint green nail polish. It’s Mint Candy Apple from Essie. Anyhow, I think this is the outfit I would wear to Coachella if I ever went. I feel like a total earthy, boho, granola girl dressed like this which isn’t really my regular style. Maybe it’s time to go glamping…

Friday's Faux Paw

This faux paw falls in the realm of “You’ve got to be crazy if you thought that this was a good idea!”. I blame the runways for this but retailers should have been intelligent enough to see that this was a look that should have stayed on the runways and not made it into stores. I speak of the dreaded sneaker wedges. These are shoes that are not even worthy of chewing. They are clunky, ugly, and way too warm for summer. I wonder who had the brilliant idea of taking a sneaker and a wedge and putting them together. This is clearly a case of two rights making a wrong. I guess if you’re crying out to be different and noticed, by the time fall rolls around all of these beauties will be marked down and you will have a great selection of them.

Tuesday's OOTW - Starting A New Trend With Bella's Treasure Jewelry!

Cuff links were once a common item in every man’s drawer. Not sure what they are? They are a device for fastening together the sides of a shirt cuff and are often a statement piece. Sometimes a father would pass them down to his son and this would continue through the generations. Here’s an example of cuff links on a woman’s blouse:

cuff links

Flash forward to now. Often men and women don’t wear the type of shirts anymore that go with cuff links. So how can we wear them then? That’s where Bella’s Treasure, a Canadian jewelry company comes in. They have created a custom leather cuff that you can put a cuff link on so you no longer need a long-sleeved shirt. You can buy the cuff from them and use your own heirlooms or you can buy cute cuff links from them as well. Here I am sporting the cute red shoe cuff link, and the silver heart cuff link with one of their leather cuffs. Darling aren’t they? I think a new trend is born!
