Friday's Faux Paw

I think that everybody should know about this faux paw already but time and time again I see this horrible crime against fashion occurring everywhere! This affront applies to men, women, children, even dogs – wearing clothes that do not fit! Have I not taught you anything? There is nothing so unattractive as to see a woman or man wearing a dress shirt and the buttons look like they are about to pop off and hit me in the eye. You can’t help but stare at the person’s chest which is especially uncomfortable if the human in question is female. Or watching a woman wearing a dress with seams straining that makes me afraid if she makes one false move I am going to be seeing a lot more than I’d like to. Maybe a male human won’t mind but you’re not my type as I am a dog. Please for the love of everything, buy clothes that fit you! If you have put on a few pounds this past Christmas (as I too am guilty of) and an article of clothing no longer fits, then temporarily “retire” it until you lose the weight. Another option is give the piece of clothing away to someone who needs it more and buy a replacement that fits, you might also want to see the zipper tags clothing options. My Mom Joelle has a problem buying button-up shirts that fit as she is small in the waist but broad shouldered with a larger bust. So she has to buy a button-up that fits her bust and shoulders and gets the waist taken in by a tailor. Follow her example and do the same. With any piece of clothing make sure it fits you in your largest spot and get the rest taken in. It is much easier for a tailor to take an a garment in than to let it out. No more peep shows, okay?

Saying Good-bye

There are lots of articles regarding death. It’s been written about so many times over the years that I’m not even sure I have anything relevant to add. Am I a stranger to it? Definitely not. I lost my very good friend and Grandmother when I was four. Then I lost my best friend and Grandfather when I was twenty-one. But it never gets easier saying “good-bye”. It’s because every person is a unique, unrepeatable expression on God’s love. I miss everyone who has gone before me but in different ways.

Why am I choosing to write about death today? It’s because my husband’s mom had a major heart attack and is going to pass away at any moment. It’s been hard to know she’s dying soon, but what’s been harder for me is watching Tim go through trying to let go of his mom. And the whole ordeal makes me think too much. “What am I going to do when my Mom dies? How could I handle Tim dying? What if something happens to James?” (my toddler). Needless to say there has been a huge amount of anxiety kicking around for the past week as I realize how fragile life is.

I converted to Catholicism ten years ago this past Easter. It was the best decision I ever made. It is truly my faith and Tim’s that is keeping us going through this difficult experience. We unquestionably believe that we will see those who died in the faith again in heaven. We just have to keep up our faith and live Christ-like until we die! This is easier said than done though – especially with my temper! Siiiiiigh.

But I’d be remiss not to mention how much beauty I have seen throughout this whole ordeal. The way the family has come together to care for her, the loving talks her children have had with her, the reconciliations that took place, and Tim’s family pushing past their grief to look after James so Tim and I could have a break and sit with her. Such compromise, caring, and love all rolled into one circumstance! So moving and wonderful.

I will always be so grateful to my Mother-in-law for taking me into her home when I had no place to live, for all the meals, for telling Tim to marry me (haha!), for being a loving Babcia to James, but mostly for raising the most terrific friend, husband, and father this girl could ever hope for.

And I know in my heart that she will be going to heaven soon where there will be no more illness or sadness. And I told her the other day to say “Hi!” to my loved ones who are there and to put in a good word for me to Jesus. ‘Cause hey, it can’t hurt. And we will have another person looking out for us from above where everything is visible unlike we who are still on earth. We don’t understand why things happen or fully know Jesus. But one day when we see him face to face in heaven we will understand and know Him fully.

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 & 13

In the meantime, please send good wishes and prayers our way. And thanks for hanging out with me by reading this post. Another day goes by…

Tuesday's OOTW - Just Peachy

I am always on the look out for a fabulous wall to shoot my OOTW in front of. I was so happy when I found this wall on the side of a bank. While I realize there is still snow outside, I had to bust out some spring pastels. I am so over winter. I found my peach blouse on clearance for $7 at Walmart. I bought my mint leggings there as well last season. My clutch is actually a make up bag. I always like metallics with pastels so I added my gold Guess shoes to complete my look. So what are you excited most about spring? Let me know in the comments below.

Friday's Faux Paw

There has been much debate over today’s faux paw. Some say it’s fine provided you wear sandal-foot nylons, while others like me say it’s tacky. I’m talking about wearing open toed shoes or sandals with nylons. My opinion is if you wear open toed shoes or sandals, then go barefoot or you will look like you’re a grandmother – and not a stylish one at that. My Grandmother is actually very stylish, but I digress. If you don’t believe me how bad it looks, then check out the photo on the left and see which foot looks better. It’s even worse if you wear nylons with open toed shoes or sandals in a colour other than nude or black – remember the white nylon craze? I heartily say paint your toenails and let your feet be free. And get a pedicure while you’re at it.

Lipsense Makes Sense - A Love Story

This is a sponsored post.

There once was a happy couple named Tim and Joelle.

They were very affectionate.

They loved to kiss but Tim hated getting Joelle’s bright lipstick on himself.

Would Tim and Joelle have to be less affectionate? Or would Tim have to be constantly washing his face? What are they going to do?

Luckily Joelle met Amber who sells a new product called Lipsense that stays on for up to 18 hours and doesn’t come off on anything. When she found out it was gluten free, lead free, wax free, and cruelty free, Joelle was desperate to try it! So Amber got her a Lipsense Kit including the colour Salmon, The Glossy Gloss, and The Oops Remover (not pictured).

“Hope this works!”

So she put on her new lipstick and kissed Tim.

Woo hoo! Success!

Thanks, Lipsense!!

Everyone should support small business owners like Amber (and me). Women like us are working to get by, not to buy a beach home like the CEO of a big company. So if you’re interested in finding out more or buying some of this amazing lipstick, send Amber an email at lusciouslip1987@gmail.com You’ll be supporting a terrific gal and her sweet family plus you’ll be getting an awesome lipstick or lipsticks! 😉

And if you want to try and win a Lipsense Kit valued at $55 with the colour Shelala, The Glossy Gloss, and The Oops Remover head over to my giveaway here.

Tuesday's OOTW - Not So Mellow Yellow

Just to let everyone know I will be adding links to the blog so you can easily shop my looks. Before each of the OOTW set of photos, I will mention where I purchase everything. The link to each item will be bolded text in blue.

Well our snow has returned. We have had three inches in the past few days. This is nothing out of the ordinary since we can get snow here up until the end of May. It is still frustrating when you want to do photo shoots. These photos were taken shortly after Christmas, so you can see a wee bit of our Christmas decorations. I’m pretty organized and like to do things way ahead of time.

I was looking forward to finally styling this great yellow pencil skirt I found at Target back when they were in Canada. I still miss them. I thought it would be fun to add a plaid shirt and some funky pearls and a cute pair of velvet wine pumps. And of course my awesome Coach sunglasses because it was super bright outside and I didn’t feel like putting on eye make up. #reallife

Friday's Faux Paw

Dresses and skirts are beautiful on women. Know what is not beautiful? Today’s faux paw. You will never look good when your dress/skirt is sticking to your nylons or skin. Luckily there are many easy ways to fix this problem. Wear a slip, spray the dress with an anti-static dryer sheet, spray your dress using a spritzer bottle filled with water, use an anti-static spray on your dress, spray aerosol hairspray on your dress, touch grounded metal, attach a safety pin on the inside of your skirt, apply moisturizing lotion on your body where the dress is clinging. Joelle likes to wear a slip underneath her skirts and dresses if they are full of static. It is the only sure way she has found for keeping a skirt from clinging to her body. An added bonus, you can buy a slip that has a lace extender (as in the photo) so you can see the cute lace peeking out from under your skirt/dress.

If you insist on wearing a clingy skirt/dress, then this is my rating:

My Recent Clothing Haul

Happy Holy Thursday to those celebrating!

I have been madly updating my spring/summer wardrobe lately and thought I’d take a moment to share with you the recent things I have purchased and love.

First off these gorgeous embroidered jeans. I saw them online at Nordstrom’s and feel in love immediately. However at $175 CDN I didn’t love the price. So I scored these babies online for $40 and never looked back. I have styled them recently and will be blogging more about them soon. Go here to grab a pair of your own.

I have hated pink my entire life until a month ago. Now I gotta have all the pink. So when I saw these stunning shoes I had to add them to my collection. Get your own here.

I call these lovelies my “Kendra Not” earrings. They are resin, but look so much like Kendra Scott earrings I thought I’d buy them for $4. They are great! Click here to buy them.

I have wanted a saddle bag like the Chloé ones forever. I was super happy to find this similar one for $45 CDN. The photos seriously don’t do it justice. And it comes in other colours too. Go grab your own here.

And if you’re into white lace and pom poms then this dress is a great pick. I’m 5’8″ and find it a bit too short on me so I’ll be wearing it as a long tunic, but for you petite gals it would be perfect. Head here to grab one.

So I hope this post inspires you to put the spring back in your wardrobe. What things are you looking to buy for a wardrobe update?

Tuesday's OOTW - Mixed Up

One of my favourite things to do is take two different prints and wear them together. This combo works because the top (which is actually a dress) shares one of the same colours as the skirt. Because I wanted to kick up this outfit a notch, I put on my favourite bling necklace. And I’m totally jazzed about my thrifted Ralph Lauren heels. I got them for $10 and they are in mint condition.

And before anyone asks, we currently don’t have snow. This photo was taken a couple months ago. I like to be organized. But check in with me in a couple of minutes as I may be donning my parka to go get my mail.

Necklace: eBay.ca // Shirt (actually a dress) Old Navy // Skirt: Smart Set // Shoes: Thrifted Ralph Laurens for $10!

Friday's Faux Paw

Spring is here and in many climates it’s time to wear sheer or lace tops. They are the perfect light weight addition to your spring/summer wardrobe. However there is one faux paw to be aware of. When you forget to cut out any tags that show though the fabric it makes you look a wee bit tacky. Is it the end of the world if you don’t? Nope. But it just looks so much better when you take the extra time to do this.

Konifer - A Canadian Wood Watch Company

This is a sponsored post.

Max Clement founded the Canadian wooden watch company KONIFER WATCH in 2013 to offer the best wooden watches on the market. Wood has always been a part of Max’s life. His father and grandfathers worked in the forest, and now the he is honouring this tradition by making wooden watches. Konifer sculpts their watches straight from raw materials. Their commitment is to offer you a truly original collector’s item to be proud of. Not just a reliable wooden watch, but a “one of a kind” beautiful work of art, that provides many years of pride and lasting beauty. And the best part is, for each Konifer product you purchase, they pledge to plant a tree via their partner WE FOREST! They strongly believe in an eco-responsible business model. Even though this company is based in Canada (Yay!), they offer free shipping to anywhere in the world.

With a desire to continuously improve, Konifer is starting a new project with a partner: a collection of top of the line from Lido Watch customizable watches made of metal and wood. You get to choose amongst 5 different hard wood essences, followed by selecting a stainless steel or black matte finish that fits your style. All of their watches are made from stainless 316L, the highest quality on the market. Once you’ve selected the type of wood essence and metal type, Konifer will create for you a well thought-out and unique watch. They are needing funding through Kickstart so head here and participate while you still can. You might be eligible for a free watch!

I was ecstatic when Konifer approached me to give me one of their gorgeous watches. Being the selfless person that I am, I asked them if I could give the watch to my husband instead. They agreed so I’m proud to present my husband Tim, wearing the stunning ADIRONDACK RUBY watch. As you can see from the following photos, he’s not the only one who is excited about his watch!

“Daddy that’s so nice!”

And after they made this watch they planted a tree! Yay!!

“This watch is something I can pass down to James someday.”

Tim – thanks for being such a great husband and Dad! xoxoxo

New Giveaway For A Lipsense Kit!

Ever since I heard that Lipsense stays on for up to 18 hours and doesn’t come off on anything, I wanted to check it out. I wanted to try it even more when I saw all the beauty blogger videos of people wiping their lips and it didn’t budge.

Some information about Lipsense:

Now to introduce you to Amber. She’s a stay at home mom of four beautiful kids, a wife, and home maker. She decided to start selling Lipsense because it is a product she believes in. She was looking for something she could make some money at and be able to stay at home with her children. So after trying a red colour from a family member, she bought it and was hooked because it stayed on for two days! She signed up to sell Lipsense two weeks later. Her favourite things about Lipsense is that it’s made from natural ingredients, hasn’t been tested on animals, it’s GMO free, and wax, gluten, and lead free.

And here’s Amber wearing one of her favourite Lipsense colours.

Everyone should support small business owners like her (and me). Women like us are working to get by, not to buy a beach home like the CEO of a big company. So if you’re interested in finding out more or buying some of this amazing lipstick, send her an email at lusciouslip1987@gmail.com You’ll be supporting a terrific gal and her sweet family plus you’ll be getting an awesome lipstick or lipsticks! 😉

The folks you are helping out with every Lipsense purchase from Amber. What a cute family!

Now for the best part! I’ve teamed up with Amber to give away a Lipsense Kit worth $55! Included in the kit is the Shelala Lipstick, The Glossy Gloss, and The Oops! Remover. This giveaway is open Internationally and will end at midnight MST Wednesday April 26th, 2017.

Tuesday's OOTW - Furtastic!

I know it is a huge trend, but I didn’t know if I’d buy a fur vest. But then I fell in love with this one from Walmart (you can see the story here). I don’t know why I didn’t take the plunge sooner. A fur vest is such a great thing to have on a windy, chilly spring day.

I snagged my earrings off of eBay for a couple of dollars. I like how they are similar to Kendra Scott earrings but way cheaper. I took some $5 thrift store jeans and ripped them myself. Then for some print mixing – this time with stripes and floral shoes.

I’ve been busily trying to put outfits together for spring and summer and am always finding one key piece missing in each outfit. Does this happen to you? Let me know in the comments below.
