Camouflage - Have You Seen It?

A trend that is still going strong is camouflage. I've seen it on vests, jeans, jackets, shirts, and even purses and shoes. So a few days ago when I was at Smart Set, I decided to try on a pair of camouflage jeans. When I saw they were regularly $54 but were on sale for $12 I could not refuse them, If you look closely, the camouflage is actually made out of flowers. I decided to pair them with a floral top which I had purchased last year from WAL-MART but had forgotten about and never worn until today. Some dangerous silver tipped black heels, spikey bracelets, and a red purse and I feet girly yet confident. Would you rock some camo?

I went camping this weekend and had a blast. I was super excited to get back though and have a shower after going without one for two days. Anyhow it sure feels great to put on a pretty dress to head out to do some errands.

Tall folks over 5'&7" on the thin side can wear the horizontal, but others should stick to vertical stripes or just wearing them on a purse or shoes. Check them out:

Five For The Men

I would be super unobservant if I didn't notice how many guys follow our blog. For that reason, we're going to start having more entries for all you wonderful stylish or soon-to-be stylish men out there. So here goes!

I want to help you guys out with something I think you may find helpful - dressing to impress the ladies. Here are some things women notice about men on the style front.

1. Tidy Thyself
Spend some quality bathroom time and fix pimples, pluck the uni-brow, colour you hair if prematurely grey, remove excess ear, nose etc. hair, shave, style you hair, put on a bit of cologne (see our guide here for how much is enough). Here are some great products to help you out: Clean & Clear Acne Spot Treatment, Tweezerman Tweezers, Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Colour, Conair 2 in 1 Trimmer, Gillette Fushion Razor, Joico Gel.

2. Trash The T-Shirt
Women think that if a man puts some effort into their dress, then in a relationship there will be effort put into all the other things too and we are interested. If it is warm out, choose a golf shirt or a short sleeve shirt - yes with actual buttons. For the chillier months, opt for a long-sleeved shirt or a long-sleeve shirt under a sweater, vest or cardigan. Here are some options from Banana Republic, Old Navy, The Bay, Harry Rosen, and H&M.

3. Jettison The Jeans
Yes they too are comfy, but they don't showcase what an original, interesting, and creative guy you are. Women don't expect that men will put anywhere near as much effort into themselves as we do, so even something as small as wearing some khakis will set you apart from the average guy and it make it look like you have put a ton of effort into your look. Here are some options from Banana Republic, Old Navy, The Bay, Harry Rosen, and H&M.

4. Chuck The Cap

It doesn't matter if the hair is thinning out, say good-bye to the baseball cap - at least for the first few dates. Ball caps are so casual and you do want to take your gal somewhere nice and wearing a cap there is a major faux paw in the etiquette world. And don't go overboard on the hair product either.

5. Scrap The Sneakers

Women are creatures of habit and shoes are a part of that habit for most of us (don't I know it as I own roughly 100 pairs - hope my guy is not reading this). I know that sneakers are super comfy, but fellas, please save them for the gym. Sneakers scream, "I don't care how I look!!". If comfort is what you want try these options from The Shoe Company, Spring, The Bay, Harry Rosen, and Aldo.

Now get out there and impress the ladies!

Skirting The Issue

I normally don't update on a Tuesday, but wearing this skirt from H&M sure put a spring in my step and inspired me. On a hot summer day nothing is better than a skirt. You will notice that my Boston Cooper is in one of the shots. She was supposed to stay inside, but she wanted to be a part of things. I guess she thinks she's some kind of star because I featured her in a previous entry. It begins...

I can't live without my...

...maxi-dress! There I've admitted it. Whew!

The story goes like this:
  • back in 2009 I bought black maxi-dress
  • I wear it once for a photoshoot
  • said dress sits in my closet for a few years
  • last week I "discover" the dress
  • I wear it non-stop everywhere
  • I want/need to buy other maxi-dresses as this is my only one
Here are the reasons I love this dress sooooooooo much:
  • comfortable
  • stylish
  • cool because it's been so hot outside
  • easy to get dressed
  • able to change the look by wearing different accessories
  • versatile - you can dress it up or down depending on where you'd like to wear it
Now before you head out to get your very own keep in mind that this is not a look for shorter people. If you are shorter than 5'7" then go for a knee-length version instead so you don't look dumpy. As for re-creating my look, my necklace I recently got on ebay here, my bracelet was a gift from a friend, and my jean jacket was from WAL-MART a couple months ago for $25 - you can find a comparable one at Old Navy for $35. I bought the dress, shoes, and purse so long ago that they'd no longer be in stores. You can find a comparable dress at Old Navy for $30, shoes at Aldo for $50, and the purse on ebay - you decide the price as it's an auction item.

Happy shopping!

Check Out My Haul

Yes lately I have been shopping it up! The "in" thing right now is to show off your haul - as in what you have bought on recent shopping excursions. So here's my haul:

Rainbow Shoes $30 Caprice Consignment
I just had to buy these when my friend showed them to me. They definitely will go with everything. I just can't pass up a double rainbow. What does it mean?!?!?

Necklace $6 Reitmans
Was at Reitmans to buy the multi-coloured blouse but just had to buy this braided two-toned silver necklace. It will look great with anything and was 50% off.

I bought this specifically to wear with my white skirt. I really like wearing black on top and white on the bottom because I'm big on top and tiny on the bottom. Because black makes you look smaller and white makes you look bigger, this combination balances me out.

I bought this to go with the cute pairs of coloured jeans I bought in cobalt blue and in teal. It will also look great with my white capris.

Yellow Polka-Dot Dress $17 Value Village
I bought this dress after searching everywhere for something to wear to my brother's wedding. Leave it to a second hand store to solve my problems.

So I hope my new stash has inspired you. What are you looking to add to your closet?
